If there *is* a next time....
How about "tri-" matches? Three- instead of two-team head-to-heads. Winner gets three points, second place gets one, loser gets zero. Permits more matchups in the same amount of time. Or the same amount of matchups in a shorter season.
How about holding tournaments concurrent with the regular season? A team could be matched against one team (or two) in regular season play while it matches up against another in tournament play. With 64 teams you could knock off a midseason tournament in 6 weeks. Would add some thrills--well, okay, a few--to the typical week-after-week grind.
Just some addled thoughts.

I would like to see 20 runner owner restricted races banned from the competition. Its not really fair as the members of the larger res`s are at an advantage with few of these races open for most players. It gives a player who has entered into one of these rare races too much of an advantage over his opponent who does not get a chance to run in one of these races.
Luckily enough for me, i was able to overcome being put to this disadvantage this week, however if my opponent had won or got placed in this race,I would have had very little chance.

FIRSTLY, THIS WILL BE A YEARLY CONTEST AND WHILE I KNOW THE CONTEST IS LONG IT WAS ALWAYS MEANT TO BE A YEAR LONG AFFAIR MUCH LIKE A REGULAR SEASON IN ANY PRO SPORTS LEAGUE. AS FOR HOLDING MINI COMPETITIONS WITHIN THE REGULAR SEASON IT IS SOMETHING I WILL LOOK INTO FOR THE SECOND EDITION NEXT YEAR. WHEN THE REGULAR SEASON ENDS I WILL BE PUTTING A THREAD OUT FOR SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE NEXT YEARS COMPETITION AND WILL TAKE ALL SUGGESTIONS IN MIND INCLUDING THE RESTRICTING OF 20 HORSE REZ RACES. UNFORTUNATELY I CAN NOT CHANGE THESE RULES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COMPETITION NOW. CHEERS THEO

Geez, I hope there is a next time. This thing is the balls.
Tri-matches are an interesting idea but we have about 16 simmers who aren't making picks anymore and likely more later as folks get boxed out of the playoffs. How do you factor those in? Midseason tourneys is a great idea.
20 field races are an easy fix. Round them all off to 14. If they finish 14th or worse they get a zip.

Teddy can the winners of their groups be seeded for the next comp.
That way all the winners of their group can avoid each other in the first phase plus its another incentive to win your group (as well as the 500 credits of course) in future comps.
just an idea

Actually, I had already planned on doing that next year but instead of going by where you finished in the division the seeds were going to be dertermined by how many points you scored this year. Some strong teams have had bad luck this year by having their high scores beaten by a few points each week. Theo
